Marmalade is a thick, spreadable fruit mixture that contains bits of the fruit's rind. Usually citrus fruits, most often Seville oranges, which grow in the Mediterranean region, are used to make marmalade. Although the tartness and bitterness of the Seville orange make it unsuitable for eating out of hand, it is ideal for making marmalade. Marmalade is used as a spread for toast and English muffins and as an ingredient in baked goods and some meat sauces.
